The 2008 Los Angeles Kings are back at STAPLES Center. Staples Center is a multi-purpose sports arena in Downtown Los Angeles, California named for the Staples office-supply company. With a capacity of around 20,000 (18,118 for hockey and arena football, 20,000 for concerts, and 18,997 for basketball), 1200 television monitors from which each event is broadcasted, and a palatial sheen, the sate-of-the-art complex opened on October 17, 1999 at a cost of $375 million. Two-thirds of the arena's seating, including 2,500 club seats, are in the lower bowl. There are also 160 luxury suites, including 15 event suites, on three levels between the lower and upper bowls. Being the home of NBA's Lakers and Clippers, WNBA's Sparks, NHL's Kings and AFL's Avengers, it is the only arena that is home to five professional sports franchises. It also hosts major concerts, skating events and conventions. Packed to the gills with food and beverage choices, from McDonald's to the prestigious Premier Club, the only reasonable complaint may be that the building and amenities sometime overshadow the events themselves. But Staples Center indeed is a world-class venue for a world-class city.
